Our Mission
Moon Dog Ranch is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide healing opportunities through wilderness therapy, equine-assisted learning, and creative arts experiences to at-risk local and Native American youth, as well as to adult trauma survivors.
Who we serve:
We serve our local San Luis Valley youth, adult trauma survivors, women from local domestic shelters, as well as adults and youth from our partnering Native American tribes, such as the Santee Sioux tribe of Nebraska
Community Impact
"Before my session with Sarah & Gypsy I had only ever been on a horse once, when I was little. I didn't know what to expect. I noticed immediately feeling different while brushing Gypsy, a sense of calm and connection that was rare for me. Sarah's guidance throughout was extremely comforting and informative. My heart was opened and I was able to talk about things and process more deeply than I ever had in a talk therapy session. Riding Gypsy was an amazing experience, Sarah helped me see how Gypsy was listening to me and made the whole experience very intuitive. At the end of our ride I felt grounded and experienced a level of relaxation that before then had only ever experienced when chemically induced. I wish I had had this opportunity sooner in my life.
